Austin Airport at a Glance

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is the primary commercial airport serving Austin and Central Texas. Travelers usually call it Austin Airport or AUS. All commercial passenger flights now operate from the Barbara Jordan Terminal, so the old two-terminal advice found on some websites is no longer current.

Presidential Boulevard traffic pattern changed August 11

Yellow Garage construction has temporarily closed the far-left lane leading toward the return-loop exit after the Barbara Jordan Terminal. The return-loop exit remains open. AUS expects this work to last about 30 days, so drivers should follow posted signs and allow extra road time.

Austin Airport TSA Wait Times & Security Checkpoints

Search demand for AUS wait times is high, but a traveler guide should not invent a live queue. AirwayFinder therefore shows the current checkpoint setup and timing guidance without labeling estimated numbers as live TSA data.

General screening, Known Crew Member, priority/premium, ADA screening and CLEAR for general screening.

Checkpoint 2

TSA PreCheck is currently listed here.

Checkpoint 3

Runs between Red Garage level 3 and the rental-car/rideshare area. Current AUS pages publish inconsistent start times, so use airport signage for same-day hours.

Austin Airport Rental Car Companies

Rental cars use the Consolidated Rental Car Facility behind Red Garage. Returning a vehicle adds walking and processing time, so include rental return time in the 2.5- or 3-hour arrival buffer.

Journey With AUS: Current Expansion & Construction

Austin Airport is in the middle of its largest improvement program. Construction affects parking, roadways, terminal space and future gate capacity, so older airport maps and terminal advice can become outdated quickly.

Parking

Yellow Garage

A new 7,000-space garage is under construction north of Blue Garage and is expected to open to travelers by early 2027.

Terminal

West Gate Expansion

Adds passenger space, new amenities and three gates, along with restrooms, family/nursing rooms and a public viewing area.

Temporary Capacity

Concourse M

A planned six-gate midfield facility will use shuttle buses from the Barbara Jordan Terminal while larger projects are built.

Long Term

Concourse B & Tunnel

A future 26-gate midfield concourse will connect to the Barbara Jordan Terminal by tunnel and is targeted for the early 2030s.

Why the South Terminal closed

Its closure clears space for the New Midfield Taxiways, an enabling project for future airport expansion.
